Michael Spillane joins Burton Albion on trial

Former Southend United defender Michael Spillane has joined Burton Albion on trial.

The 24-year-old, who has also previously played for Dagenham & Redbridge, featured for the club in a Bass Charity Vase clash with Derby County on Tuesday.

A number of Football League clubs are believed to be monitoring developments, but it is understood that Burton are preparing to offer a short-term contract this week.

Spillane began his career at Norwich City.
