Nigel Clough grateful to be back at "special" Burton Albion

Burton Albion manager Nigel Clough is "looking forward" to maintaining the success achieved by Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink after agreeing to re-join the Staffordshire side.

Nigel Clough has admitted that his number one target upon returning to "special" Burton Albion is to help maintain the club's recent wave of success.

The Brewers have gone from League Two to the top of League One thanks in large to the work carried out by Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink at the Pirelli Stadium.

Hasselbaink ended long-running speculation over his future last week by taking over at Queens Park Rangers, leaving Burton on the lookout for a new boss.

Albion were quick to make an appointment, however, as they named Clough as their new manager after a six-year absence away from the club.

"It's wonderful to be back at Burton Albion again, working with the chairman Ben Robinson and his staff, who make this club so special," the 49-year-old, who has since had spells at Derby County and Sheffield United, told the Staffordshire side's official website.

"We're looking forward to trying to maintain the remarkable success the club is enjoying."

Burton will look to strengthen their grip at the top of the table when they take on Gillingham next weekend.
