Burnley are reportedly set to step up their contract talks with Ben Mee, whose current deal comes to an end this summer.

Burnley are stepping up their negotiations with Ben Mee to extend his stay at the club, according to a report.

The 32-year-old first joined the team on a one-year loan in 2011, and by January 2012 then-Burnley boss Eddie Howe was able to secure him on a permanent deal from Manchester City.

The Clarets club captain is one of 10 players who will be out of contract at the end of the season, but his current deal does have an option of a one-year extension.

However, even though there are others to focus on as well, Mee's situation is at the top of Burnley's list of priorities according to the Daily Mail, and talks are scheduled to take place this week between them.

With his contract running out, speculation has begun in regards to a potential transfer away from Turf Moor, and Newcastle United have been linked with him regularly as Howe eyes a reunion.

So far this season Mee has made 11 appearances in the Premier League, contributing two goals as the Clarets battle for their survival in the top flight.
