Eddie Howe is reportedly looking at three defenders that he wants to sign in the January transfer window.

Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing a trio of defenders in the January transfer window.

The club have conceded more goals than every team in the Premier League (30) and have only managed to win one game this season, which has resulted in them sitting in the relegation zone.

According to The Sun, the defensive side of Newcastle's game is something Eddie Howe wants to strengthen in January with a trio of signings be on his mind.

The Magpies are reportedly interested in signing Kieran Trippier, who would cost the club £25m, with big wages apparently set to be part of that deal if it does take place.

Meanwhile Howe is also interested in a pair of Burnely central defenders with Ben Mee and James Tarkowski being two players he is keeping an eye on.

Both men are out of contract with the Clarets in the summer, but Newcastle are hoping to bring them both onboard before they become available for free in the summer.
