Burnley sign goalkeeper Paul Robinson on deal until end of the season

Burnley sign former Leeds, Tottenham and Blackburn goalkeeper Paul Robinson on a deal until the end of the season.

Burnley have announced the signing of goalkeeper Paul Robinson on a deal until the end of the season.

The 36-year-old, who has played for Leeds United, Tottenham Hotspur and Blackburn Rovers in his career, has been out of work since the summer.

Robinson left Blackburn at the end of the 2014-15 season and will now join the Clarets' Championship campaign as cover for the injured Matt Gilks.

"I spoke to the manager and he's obviously got an injury to one of his goalkeepers, so this was too good an opportunity to turn down," Robinson told the club's official website. "I've been fit and training for the last couple of months, so it's just nice to join a fantastic football club.

"The manager goes about his business here very well and having spent some time with him this afternoon I can't speak highly enough, so I'm looking forward to working with him. I have played a lot of Premier League and Championship games and hopefully that experience can help people in and around the club.

"I'm just looking forward to getting training and using that experience. There are three very good goalkeepers here now and it would be nice to get some game time under my belt and be ready if called upon."

Manager Sean Dyche added: "Obviously with the injury to Matt, we were looking and we knew Paul was available. We know he has looked after himself and basically his depth of knowledge as a goalkeeper and the quality he has shown throughout his career, speaks for itself.

"He has played at some terrific clubs and has something like 40 England caps, so we felt it was appropriate to bring a player of his quality and stature into the football club.

"He really wants to push and get sharper and wants to be a part of what we do here, so we are looking forward to seeing how he goes."

Robinson has kept 86 clean sheets in 372 appearances in the Premier League.
