Michael Duff plays down Manchester City victory

Burnley defender Michael Duff warns his side that they still have work to do to ensure survival following their 1-0 victory over champions Manchester City last weekend.

Burnley defender Michael Duff has warned that his side still have plenty of work to do in order to avoid relegation from the Premier League this season.

The Clarets gave their survival hopes a surprise boost on Saturday with a 1-0 victory over champions Manchester City at Turf Moor, a result that brought them to within one point of safety.

However, Duff insists that the City scalp will be meaningless unless his side can back it up over the final nine matches of the season.

"It maybe sucked a few other teams closer to us but it's just one game. Nothing has changed since day one and it won't change in the next nine games but there is definitely a belief that we can achieve something this year," he told the club's official website.

"We know from the outside that nobody has given us a prayer but we are still there or thereabouts with nine games to go. I think we have surprised a few people along the way and it's just having that belief now.

"There is a real energy in this team and a hunger too. Not many of us have played at this level for much of our career, so the lads are desperate to stay where we are."

Burnley's next match sees them take on Southampton at St Mary's before their tricky fixture list continues with games against Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Everton.
