Sam Vokes relishing reunion with Jason Shackell

Burnley ace Sam Vokes says that he is looking forward to his on-field reunion with Jason Shackell, but insists that friendship will be cast aside during the 90 minutes.

Sam Vokes has stressed that friendship will be put to one side when he comes up against former Burnley teammate Jason Shackell.

The defender returned to Derby County during the summer after a three-year stint in Lancashire.

Shackell will face off against his old club on Monday night when Burnley visit the iPro Stadium, but Vokes insists that it will be business as usual as soon as the first whistle sounds.

"I'll be speaking to Shacks before the game I'm sure and having a bit of banter with him," he told the Lancashire Telegraph. "It will be good to go up against him.

"He was obviously a good mate when he was here but when you step across the line, it's all professional. I've played against him before. I've had a few battles with him - and a few battles in training over the last few years.

"It will be nice to see him but you're a true professional when you step over the line. It will be a tough game, we know that. They've spent a lot of money and they've got a strong squad. It's a fixture we're all looking forward to."

Shackell made 128 appearances for Burnley during his time at the club, scoring four goals from the back.
