Joe Hart "really pleased" to be at Burnley on permanent basis

Joe Hart intends to fend off competition from Tom Heaton and Nick Pope over the course of the season to remain Burnley's first-choice keeper.

Burnley goalkeeper Joe Hart has said that he is "really pleased" to have joined the club on a permanent basis after helping his side to successive clean sheets.

The 31-year-old arrived at Turf Moor from Manchester City in a cut-price £3.5m transfer earlier this week, having spent the last two campaigns out on loan with Torino and West Ham United.

Fresh on the back of keeping out Istanbul Basaksehir in Thursday's Europa League qualifying tie, Hart again stood firm at St Mary's on Sunday as Burnley claimed a 0-0 draw against Southampton.

Hart, who produced one big save in particular to tip a Jack Stephens effort past the post, told BBC Sport after the match: "We played really well in the first half but they changed it round at half time and pushed us in the second half.

"I think we're both happy with a point in the end. I push myself to the edge in all I do. I'm really pleased to be at this club and to be here permanently. I've walked into a nest of top keepers and I'll have to be on my toes if I want to keep the shirt."

Tom Heaton was on the bench for Burnley following his return from injury, while last season's number one Nick Pope is expected to miss the majority of the year.
