Burnley GM Matt Williams confident club can become established top-flight side

Burnley's new general manager Matt Williams is confident that the club can become an established Premier League side once they return to the top flight.

Burnley's new general manager Matt Williams has backed the club to return to the Premier League and become an established side in the top flight.

Sean Dyche's men spent the 2014-15 season playing against the country's elite, but they suffered relegation at the end of the campaign.

The Clarets are currently third in the Championship table, two points adrift of leaders Hull City and second-placed Brighton & Hove Albion.

"The strides Burnley have made in recent years have been fantastic," the Lancashire Telegraph quotes Williams as saying.

"Now it is a club with aspirations to get back into the Premier League and stay there, and I think the foundation is there for them to do that.

"You look at West Brom a few years ago - they yo-yoed a couple of times and now you would say they are an established Premier League team. That's possible when you look at the club. That's more than achievable with the structure and the staff in place."

Burnley have won nine, drawn five and lost two of their league games this season.
