Team News: Rob Elliot starts for Newcastle United against Brighton & Hove Albion

Rob Elliot's inclusion in the starting lineup is one of five changes Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew makes against Brighton & Hove Albion.

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has handed a rare start to former Charlton Athletic goalkeeper Rob Elliot for their FA Cup third-round clash against Brighton & Hove Albion away from home.

Pardew has made five changes to his side that were beaten 2-1 at home by Everton on Wednesday, with James Tavernier starting at right-back and Gael Bigirimana replacing Cheick Tiote, who is away on Africa Cup of Nations duty for the Ivory Coast.

Meanwhile, Brighton are without winger Vicente because of a thigh problem but winger Will Buckley has recovered from a hamstring injury to take his place among the substitutes.

Kazenga LuaLua also makes the bench for the hosts against his former club.

Brighton & Hove Albion: Ankergren; David, Greer, El-Abd, Bridge; Bridcutt, Hammond, Dicker, Orlandi; Barnes, Mackail-Smith

Newcastle United: Elliot; Tavernier, Williamson, Perch, Santon; Anita, Bigirimana, Obertan, Abeid; Sammy Ameobi, Shola Ameobi
