Wigan to open talks with Rosler

Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan has revealed that he has been granted permission to open talks with Uwe Rosler regarding the club's vacant managerial position.

The Latics parted company with Owen Coyle at the weekend, and despite Brentford chief executive Mark Devlin insisting that no approach had been made for Rosler's services, Whelan has indicated that he hopes to install the former Manchester City striker as the club's new manager on Friday.

The 77-year-old told BBC Sport: "We have permission to talk, and I will be meeting him and hope to get it done on Friday."

Rosler has been at Griffin Park since 2011, winning 60 of his 136 matches in charge of the League One outfit.
