Mark Warburton keen to delay Brentford farewell

Warburton hopeful of perfect farewell

Mark Warburton has admitted that he is not ready to say goodbye to Brentford after his side kept their playoff bid alive with a 2-0 victory over Reading on Saturday.

Brentford will need to beat Wigan Athletic next weekend and hope that Derby County or Ipswich Town lose their respective final games to finish in the top six, while goal difference could also play a part, with Ipswich currently just three goals better off than the Bees.

Warburton, who will leave the club at the end of the season, is hopeful that he can finish his spell off with a trip to Wembley as they continue to fight for a spot in the Premier League.

"It's a great club, I'm delighted to be associated with it. I've been here four and a half years now. But the situation, it is what it is. I'm sure the club can keep on going forward," he told reporters after the win at the Madejski Stadium.

"We weren't at our best today but got an early goal that calmed the nerves and were much better in the second half. The game was too open at times but we got the three points.

"It's tight for those last playoff places so all we can do is focus on the Wigan game."

Brentford have lost just one of their last eight Championship games.
