Brentford injury news: Bees receive 'double fitness boost' ahead of Newcastle trip

Brentford receive 'double injury boost' ahead of Newcastle trip

Brentford defenders Michael Kayode and Rico Henry are reportedly expected to be available for Wednesday's Premier League clash with Newcastle United at St James' Park.

Kayode joined Brentford on loan from Italian side Fiorentina in the winter transfer window, with the Bees holding an option to make the move permanent at the end of the season.

Unfortunately for Kayode, he has been restricted to just four substitute appearances since he arrived from Serie A.

Kayode was absent for Brentford's last two matches before the international break - a 1-0 home defeat against Aston Villa and a 2-1 away win over Bournemouth.

Meanwhile, Henry has featured in just two matches during the 2024-25 campaign, playing over an hour in a FA Cup defeat to Plymouth Argyle, before appearing as a late substitute in a 2-2 Premier League draw with Manchester City in January.

Brentford receive Kayode, Henry boost

Those were Henry's first two competitive appearances since returning from the second anterior cruciate ligament injury of his career.

However, he has not been seen since January after picking up a hamstring injury, before suffering a setback in his recovery process.

According to The Standard, Kayode and Henry could provide Thomas Frank with a fitness boost for Wednesday's away meeting with Newcastle.

The report claims that the pair will be available to feature in the matchday squad after featuring in a behind-closed-doors friendly.

Both full-backs gained valuable game time in the 1-0 win in Tuesday's friendly at West Ham's training ground.

Latest on Hickey's recovery

Brentford are still expected to be without Josh Dasilva, Fabio Carvalho, Gustavo Nunes and Igor Thiago for Wednesday's Premier League fixture.

Aaron Hickey is also unavailable for selection, although the Scotland international is said to be making good progress in his long road back from injury.

The full-back is believed to be a couple of weeks away from making his return from a serious hamstring injury which has kept him out of action since October 2023.
