Bayern Munich defender Rafinha turns down Brazil call-up

Rafinha turns down Brazil call-up

Bayern Munich right-back Rafinha has turned down a call-up from Brazil coach Dunga ahead of the side's World Cup qualifiers with Chile and Venezuela next month.

The 30-year-old, who has two caps for Brazil, had been selected for the national team following injuries to Real Madrid's Danilo and Barcelona's Dani Alves.

Rafinha initially accepted the call-up, writing on Twitter: "It's marvellous to able to return to serve the Brazilian team! I am so happy with the call-up."

The defender then reconsidered his place in the national set-up - questioning his long-term future in the national team - before deciding to turn his selection down.

In a statement on the Brazilian Football Confederation's official website, Rafinha said: "I am not regularly called up. I am not one of the main options for my position, and considering that there are other professionals in front of me, [I withdraw]."

Rafinha has made six appearances for Bayern so far this season.
