Bradford vs AFC Wimbledon - prediction, team news, lineups

Bradford City will be looking to continue their sensational start to the new League One season when they take on AFC Wimbledon this Saturday at Valley Parade.

The Bantams are unbeaten in their five league matches this term, while the Dons have also picked up a handful of impressive results so far this season.

Match preview

Bradford are certainly enjoying life back in League One, going five matches unbeaten in the third tier and winning three of those games.

The Bantams have picked up victories over Wycombe Wanderers, Luton Town and Stockport County, while also holding Northampton Town and Peterborough United to a couple of draws.

On top of that, Bradford have enjoyed a couple of statement-making victories in the EFL Cup, taking out Championship opposition in the first two rounds.

Graham Alexander’s men stunned Blackburn Rovers at the start of the month before travelling to Stoke City and handing the Potters a shock 3-0 defeat – both away from home.

Wimbledon, meanwhile, have enjoyed a good start to their campaign, picking up nine points from their opening five matches in League One.

The Dons started their campaign with a narrow defeat away at Luton Town before bouncing back with impressive victories over Lincoln City and Reading.

Another narrow defeat at home against Cardiff followed, but Johnnie Jackson and his men were able to bounce back with a 2-0 success over a high-flying Barnsley side.

On top of that, the Dons had a couple of encouraging cup performances, beating Gillingham in the opening round before bowing out to Reading in a tight contest.

Team News

Bradford forwards Antoni Sarcevic and Stephen Humphrys have both trained after missing Tuesday night's EFL Cup second round victory at Stoke City with illness.

Alexander is hopeful that both they and defender Matthew Pennington will be in contention for Saturday’s game.

Striker Andy Cook is now back in full training as he continues his rehab from an ACL injury to his left knee. His return is edging closer, but he will not be available this weekend.

Defender Lewis Richards is back in training after a muscle strain but will remain on the sidelines for now, while Calum Kavanagh - who is struggling with a shin issue - is also expected to miss out.

Key recent transfer news in the Wimbledon camp concerns the addition of Nathan Asiimwe, who has joined the Dons on loan from Charlton Athletic.

In terms of injuries, Joe Lewis is a doubt but could play some part away at Valley Parade this Saturday.

Bradford City possible starting lineup: Walker; Kelly, Baldwin, Pennington; Touray, Leigh, Power, Neufville; Wright, Lapslie; Swan

AFC Wimbledon possible starting lineup: Bishop; Seddon, Harbottle, Johnson, Ogundere, Asiimwe; Hippolyte, Smith, Reeves; Stevens, Browne

We say: Bradford City 2-1 AFC Wimbledon

Bradford City are absolutely flying in these early weeks of the season, and we are expecting their form to continue – especially at home.

Wimbledon have done well, but they have already lost a couple of away games. With that in mind, we are backing the hosts to prevail.
