Bournemouth transfer news: Cherries in talks to sign '£20m-rated' AC Milan defender before Monday's deadline

Bournemouth in talks to sign '£20m-rated' AC Milan defender

Bournemouth are reportedly interested in signing AC Milan right-back Alex Jimenez

The Cherries have made five new additions this summer, recruiting Djordje Petrovic, Bafode Diakite, Adrien Truffert, Amine Adli and Ben Gannon-Doak.

However, they are still looking to strengthen Andoni Iraola's squad before the summer transfer window slams shut on Monday.

They appear to have identified an AC Milan defender as a potential target for the final stages of the transfer market.

Bournemouth in talks for Jimenez move

According to BBC Sport, Bournemouth are in talks with AC Milan over signing Jimenez on a season-long loan deal.

Jimenez is said to be 'open' to the proposed move, although a full agreement has not been agreement between the two clubs at this stage.

The Serie A giants are said to be pushing for a permanent transfer worth around £20m for a player who is under contract until June 2028, with an option to extend by a further year.

In a separate update, Gianluca Dimarzio suggests that the two clubs could agree a loan deal with an option to buy, which would become mandatory if Jimenez makes a certain number of appearances.

Who is Alex Jimenez?

Jimenez worked his way through the youth ranks at Real Madrid, but he left the club without making an appearance for the senior side.

The 20-year-old initially linked up with AC Milan's youth teams, before being integrated into the first-team setup.

Spanish youth international Jimenez has gone on to feature in 34 matches for the Rossoneri, including an appearance as a half-time substitute in the opening day defeat to Cremonese.

Jimenez is comfortably playing on the right and left sides of defence, while he can also play further up the flanks when required.

The youngster would compete with Adam Smith, Julian Araujo, Adrien Truffert and Julio Soler for the full-back spots if he completes a move to the Vitality Stadium.
