Bournemouth's Steve Cook: 'We knew Loris Karius was Liverpool's weak link'

Steve Cook: 'We targeted weak Karius'

Bournemouth defender Steve Cook has claimed that he and his teammates went into Sunday's game against Liverpool with a plan to target their opponent's 'weak' goalkeeper Loris Karius.

The 23-year-old German made a series of errors as the Cherries came from 3-1 down to claim a dramatic 4-3 victory at the Vitality Stadium.

Cook drew Bournemouth level with a 79th-minute strike, while Nathan Ake, who is on loan from Chelsea, nabbed the winner deep into injury time.

After the final whistle, Karius received criticism for his performance, with former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher claiming that the shot-stopper was not up to Premier League standard.

In an interview with talkSPORT, Cook was asked if the team set out to target Karius, to which the defender replied: "I've got to be honest, we did. We felt he was under a lot of pressure, obviously playing for Liverpool you've got to be a very strong character.

"We did target him, we tried to pressure him and get as many shots at him possible. Obviously we didn't get that many shots off in the game, but we did target him as a weakness in the Liverpool side."

Karius replaced Simon Mignolet as Liverpool's number one when he was bought from Mainz in the summer transfer window.
