Howe: 'We went toe to toe with Spurs'

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe has expressed his pride in his side after they held Tottenham Hotspur to a goalless draw at the Vitality Stadium this afternoon.

The Cherries backed up their 6-1 thrashing of Hull City last weekend with a combative performance against the unbeaten Spurs, preventing Mauricio Pochettino's side from moving top of the table.

Howe believes that his team were worthy of the point, and reserved special praise for Jack Wilshere after he completed a full 90 minutes in the Premier League for the first time since 2014.

"I am more proud of the players today than after winning 6-1 last week against Hull. We went toe to toe with an outstanding team and it was a game of real quality. We did not deserve to lose it, we had good moments too. We managed to nullify most of their threat," he told reporters.

"Both teams had their moments. The best chance was probably Benik Afobe at the end. Neither goalkeeper was really overworked though. Bournemouth players can play for England if they are good enough. I am not saying the manager has to pick them but the players have not done themselves any harm with today's performances.

"I am pleased for Jack Wilshere, he was terrific from start to finish. Lots of unseen work from him and how good he was defensively."

Bournemouth climbed into the top half of the table with the point.
