Steve Fletcher backs Callum Wilson to perform in Premier League

Bournemouth legend Steve Fletcher backs striker Callum Wilson to continue his goalscoring form in the Premier League.

Bournemouth legend Steve Fletcher has expressed his belief that Callum Wilson can follow the example of Charlie Austin by scoring goals in the Premier League.

Wilson arrived from League One side Coventry City last summer and netted 23 goals this season to help fire the Cherries into the top flight as Championship title winners.

Fletcher says that the 23-year-old can continue that form next season.

"I think he can play top flight. I think he can score goals in the Premier League," Fletcher told BBC Sport. "He is a goalscorer and a good finisher. You can't take that out of anyone - it doesn't matter what level you are playing at.

"You only have to look at Charlie Austin as a prime example, playing for Poole Town before his move to Swindon.

"Scored goals in League One, got his move to Burnley and scored goals in the Championship and is now scoring in the Premier League. He knows where the net is and Callum is exactly the same."

Wilson cost Bournemouth a club-record fee of £3m when he moved to Dean Court.
