Bournemouth thrash Northampton Town

Bournemouth thrash Northampton Town 3-0 to advance to the third round of the League Cup at Dean Court.

Bournemouth have thrashed League Two outfit Northampton Town 3-0 to advance to the third round of the League Cup in tonight's clash at Dean Court.

Eunan O'Kane signalled his side's attacking intent as early as the seventh minute, when his powerful shot cannoned off the Cobblers' crossbar.

It didn't take long for the Cherries to draw first blood, Dan Gosling coolly slotting the ball past Jordan Archer in the 21st minute.

On the half-hour mark, the home side doubled their lead courtesy of Brett Pitman, who rounded the Northampton goalkeeper after being put clean through before firing into the net.

The away side, faced with a mountain to climb in the second half, were unable to get back into the game, and ultimately conceded again towards the end.

Archer was able to get to a Gosling effort, but the ball fell to Callum Wilson, who made no mistake from close range to turn the scoreline into a comprehensive one.
