Bolton Wanderers cruise to Lancashire derby win over Blackburn Rovers

Bolton claim the Lancashire bragging rights with a convincing 3-0 victory over Blackburn at the Reebok Stadium which eases their Championship relegation worries.

Bolton Wanderers have put to bed their Championship relegation fears with an emphatic 4-0 Lancashire derby victory over Blackburn Rovers at the Reebok Stadium.

Medo, Joe Mason, Jay Spearing and Andre Moritz scored one apiece as the Trotters dented their rivals' playoff hopes with only their fourth home win of the season.

After Paul Robinson had produced good saves to deny Mason and Neil Danns, the latter provided Medo with a 23rd-minute opener by cutting inside and crossing for the midfielder to head into the net.

Adam Bogdan had only minutes earlier prevented Rovers from taking the lead against the run of play, when he thwarted Jordan Rhodes after the stand-in Blackburn skipper had been sent through one on one.

It was Robinson, though, who continued to be the busier goalkeeper and he temporarily kept the visitors' deficit at one by keeping out shots from Danns and Mason, who netted the second before the break.

Danns was involved heavily once again as his miscued shot on the turn fell kindly to Mason inside the box, who prodded into the bottom corner in first-half stoppage time for his second goal in as many games.

Wanderers killed the game off only minutes after the interval as Spearing let fly from distance and saw his shot bounce down off the crossbar, before the assistant referee deemed it to have crossed the line.

Moritz rounded off the scoring with a stoppage-time fourth, a left-footed drive beyond Robinson that helped Bolton move nine points clear of the bottom three and end Blackburn's six-match unbeaten run.
