Student jailed over Muamba tweet

A student has been jailed for 56 days for mocking Bolton Wanderers midfielder Fabrice Muamba on Twitter.

Liam Stacey, 21, made the comments on the social networking site as Muamba lay on the White Hart Lane pitch after suffering a cardiac arrest earlier this month.

The first of the Swansea University student's messages read: "LOL. **** Muamba. He's dead!!!"

Passing his sentence, District Judge John Charles told Stacey: "In my view there is no alternative to an immediate prison sentence.

"It was not the football world who was praying for him, everybody was praying for his life."

Muamba remains in intensive care at the London Chest Hospital, where his condition is described as serious but stable.
