Blackpool vs. Huddersfield - prediction, team news, lineups

There is midweek action at Bloomfield Road on Tuesday, as Blackpool host Huddersfield Town in the Championship.

The hosts earned their first league win of the season at the weekend, whilst their visitors lost just their second league game of the new campaign.

Match preview

As mentioned above, Tuesday's hosts Blackpool will be in high spirits heading into this match, after winning their first league game since returning to the Championship.

After being promoted from League One via the playoffs in 2020-21, it appeared as though Blackpool could be heading straight back to the third tier without a fight prior to Saturday's win.

In the five league matches that preceded, the Seasiders had only managed to pick up two points, which included defeats in both of their home games without scoring a goal.

However, unexpectedly defeating promotion-favourites Fulham 1-0 on home soil will have given the squad, as well as the feeling around the whole club, a huge lift ahead of the next few fixtures.

As expected, Blackpool saw very little of the ball against possession-hungry Fulham but were clinical enough to take one of their very few chances created when Josh Bowler netted the only goal of the game early in the second half.

Meanwhile, visitors Huddersfield were defeated 2-1 away at Stoke City in the return to club action at the weekend after the international break.

The Terriers struggled to get going and were far from their best against quality opposition, which as a result saw them lose their first away game of the new season.

However, after taking the lead early in the second half through Harry Toffolo, manager Carlos Corberan will have been disappointed that his side could not take at least a point from the match, and especially unhappy with conceding the equaliser just three minutes after scoring the opener.

That defeat put an end to Huddersfield's impressive three-game winning streak, which included a 4-0 hammering of Reading prior to the break, and an outstanding 2-1 victory away to promotion-hopefuls Sheffield United.

Corberan will now be hoping his side can rediscover the form of that winning run on Tuesday, against a side that they have not met since 2015.

Team News

Blackpool look set to be without at least five players for Tuesday's match, which includes some long-term absentees.

Gary Madine and Matty Virtue are yet to feature this season and will remain on the sidelines, whilst Grant Ward and CJ Hamilton will be unavailable for a lengthy period.

Demetri Mitchell is also listed as a doubt, as he edges closer to a return after not featuring yet this season.

On a positive note however, Callum Connolly returns from suspension for the visit of Huddersfield.

As for the visitors, they remain without long-term absentees Jordan Rhodes and Pipa again.

Regular forward Danny Ward has been listed as doubtful after missing the defeat to Stoke with a hip problem, whilst young forwards Daniel Grant and Aaron Rowe are expected to miss out as well.

Levi Colwill and Daniel Sinani did not start against Stoke after returning from international duty late in the week. They are expected to come back into the starting lineup for the trip to Blackpool.

Blackpool possible starting lineup:

Maxwell; Lawrence-Gabriel, Ekpiteta, Husband, Garbutt; Bowler, Dougall, Stewart, Anderson; Lavery, Yates

Huddersfield Town possible starting lineup:

Nicholls; Pearson, Lees, Colwill; Thomas, Hogg, O'Brien, Toffolo; Sinani, Campbell, Koroma

We say: Blackpool 1-1 Huddersfield Town

We expect a tight affair between these sides on Tuesday. The home advantage of Blackpool and the high spirits after their first win at the weekend should see them pick up at least a point against a Huddersfield side that has impressed so far this season. We say a hard-fought 1-1 draw.
