Michael Johnson steps down from FA board after anti-gay comments revelation

Ex-footballer Michael Johnson steps down from his role on the FA's Inclusion Advisory Board after an anti-gay comments revelation.

Ex-footballer Michael Johnson has stepped down from his role on the Football Association's 10-person anti-discrimination board after "media coverage from last week".

Footage emerged last week of Birmingham City coach Johnson in a March 2012 appearance on BBC show 'The Big Question', during which he described homosexuality as "detestable".

The FA originally backed Johnson but today he resigned from his voluntary post on the Inclusion Advisory Board.

"I've taken time over the weekend to reflect on the media coverage from last week and feel that it's in the best interests of all concerned if I step down from my duties with the Inclusion Advisory Board," said the 40-year-old in a statement released by the FA.

Johnson made 12 appearances for Jamaica during his professional career.
