Garrido thanks Betis fans

Juan Carlos Garrido has thanked the Real Betis supporters after losing his job as manager at the weekend.

The Spaniard replaced Pepe Mel at Betis just six weeks ago, but was relieved of his duties after losing four of his five league games in charge.

"My time at Real Betis has come to an end. Firstly, I want to thank the club and its fans, because for me it's been a real honour to have worked with your club," he posted on his official website.

"Despite having to say goodbye sooner than I'd have liked, I have felt the commitment and passion of the fans. During my time I have had the pleasure of working with some great people. I was surrounded by a group of skilled professionals – people who have worked hard to take the club forward.

"I also cannot forget the players. I wish them all the luck for the future. I am convinced that Real Betis will achieve its goals. Finally, I want to thank the fans again, who are one of the best in Spain."

Former Saudi Arabia coach Gabriel Calderon has taken charge of La Liga's basement club.
