Ottmar Hitzfeld: 'Xherdan Shaqiri should not leave Bayern Munich'

Ottmar Hitzfeld believes that Xherdan Shaqiri should not seek a move away from Bayern Munich in the summer.

Switzerland manager Ottmar Hitzfeld has advised Xherdan Shaqiri not to seek a move away from Bayern Munich in the summer.

The 22-year-old has repeatedly been linked with Premier League clubs over the past few months due to his inability to become a regular in the starting lineup at the Allianz Arena, but Hitzfeld believes that the Swiss attacking midfielder can achieve success with the Bundesliga winners.

"I am always a fan of players staying firm to ongoing deals and bite through tough times," the former Bayern head coach told Kicker.

"Xherdan Shaqiri is playing for the best club in the world and has the quality to be a first-team regular. The only thing he needs is to be patient."

Shaqiri joined Bayern from Basel in February 2012.
