Bayern maintain Bundesliga advantage

Goals in either half from Thomas Muller and Anatoliy Tymoshchuk gave Bayern Munich a 2-0 win at 10-man Freiburg on Wednesday night.

Muller slotted home a penalty in the first half before Tymoshchuk came off the bench to secure the win for the visitors, while Fallou Diagne was sent off for the home side in between the goals.

The league leaders went ahead after just 12 minutes, when Muller's penalty proved too strong for Oliver Baumann to keep out after the hosts were penalised for handball in the box.

Franck Ribery then squandered two good chances to double the visitors' lead, curling his effort wide after a counter-attack before Baumann held his low free kick.

The hosts were then reduced to 10 men following Diagne's dismissal for serious foul play.

Bayern continued to dictate the first half but failed to capitalise on their dominance as Mario Gomez twice failed to convert his chances.

The away side began the second half as they finished the first, with Ribery and Muller both going close for Bayern.

However, with 11 minutes left to play Bayern finally doubled their lead through substitute Anatoliy Tymoshchuk, being set up by Philipp Lahm.

The victory maintains Bayern's 10-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga.
