Preview: Bayern Munich vs. Bayer Leverkusen

Bayern vs. Leverkusen

Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich seem unstoppable in the league, but they face a challenge against third-placed Bayer Leverkusen at the Allianz Arena.

It appears unlikely that Pep Guardiola's side will have the title swept from beneath them this season as they remain unbeaten and have a seven-point lead above Wolfsburg.

Last season's closest challengers Borussia Dortmund pose no threat at all as they reside at the bottom of the table, 22 points adrift of their rivals.

Bayern's only recent blip was against Manchester City in the Champions League when they suffered a 3-2 defeat at the Etihad Stadium due to a Sergio Aguero hat-trick.

In the league, however, Bayern have won all of their seven home games this season; the last time that they lost in the Allianz was back in April.

Leverkusen only have two blemishes on their league record, but they went through a spell in September and October when they were forced to settle for three draws on the bounce.

They head into Saturday's encounter on the back of two straight league wins, the latest being an emphatic 5-1 victory over FC Koln.

Bayern have a better record against Leverkusen in recent seasons as the last time that the latter earned a victory over their opponents was in 2012 in the form of a 2-1 triumph.

Bayern have Champions League action against CSKA Moscow next week, but Guardiola could field a strong side this weekend, with Robert Lewandowski leading the line and Xabi Alonso anchoring the midfield.

Stefan Kiessling is expected to provide the goal threat for the visiting side this weekend.
