Robben: 'I considered retirement'

Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben has admitted that the number of injuries that he has suffered during his career resulted in him considering retirement.

The 28-year-old has frequently been blighted with injury problems throughout his 12-year professional career, and he has revealed that it almost forced him to quit the game.

Robben told NOS: "I have had so many injuries during my career. It occasionally makes me a bit sad.

"To be honest, I have thought about hanging up my boots more than once. It's a rather rigorous thought, but it's a consideration I've had, and not only at this point."

Robben played for Chelsea and Real Madrid before he joined Bayern Munich in 2009.
