Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez says that he prizes trophies above personal accolades.

Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez has dismissed his own personal accolades, saying that they are pointless if they don't bring silverware.

The German international has carved out a reputation as one of the most lethal marksmen in the game but says that he craves trophies over goals.

"Before me, only Ruud van Nistelrooy and Lionel Messi managed 12 goals in a Champions League season. But all this does not replace a championship and a trophy," Gomez told Kicker.

"So, the only thing that counts for me this season is becoming champions. Of course, last season was a big disappointment [losing in the Champions League final to Chelsea]. As with every one of us, I have the desire this year to be champions.

"Our squad is so strong, only Barcelona are still ahead of us."

Die Roten currently lead the Bundesliga and are through to the last 16 of the Champions League.
