Lewandowski breaks Champions League record with fastest ever hat-trick

Robert Lewandowski became the fastest player to score a Champions League hat-trick as Bayern Munich demolished Red Bull Salzburg 7-1 in the second leg of their last-16 tie at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday night.

After failing to register a single shot on goal in the first leg, the Poland international netted three goals in the space of 10 minutes and 24 seconds in the first half, including two penalties, to put the hosts three goals to the good.

Serge Gnabry then added a fourth just after the half-hour mark, before two goals from Thomas Muller, either side of a strike from Salzburg's Maurits Kjaergaard, and a late effort from Leroy Sane helped the Bavarian outfit cruise to an 8-2 victory on aggregate.

All three of Lewandowski's goals came within the first 23 minutes of the match, which is the earliest treble ever scored by a player in Champions League history.

The 33-year-old overtakes Italian forward Marco Simone, who scored a hat-trick for AC Milan within the first 24 minutes in their group-stage clash with Rosenborg back in 1996.

Lewandowski, who has now scored four hat-tricks across all competitions this season, has found the net 39 times in just 34 matches so far this term, including nine strikes in seven Champions League appearances.
