John Akinde hat-trick sinks MK Dons

League Two side Barnet shock MK Dons with a 3-1 win in their pre-season fixture.

Barnet caused an upset against their Championship opponents as a hat-trick from from John Akinde gave the League Two side a 3-1 win over MK Dons in their pre-season clash this afternoon.

In a chaotic opening few minutes, the hosts took the lead almost straight from kickoff through Akinde.

However, the Championship side were level just two minutes later when Simon Church stroked home from the penalty spot after Dean Bowditch had been pulled back in the box.

Church then had an effort hacked off the line, before Akinde restored Barnet's lead with a chipped finish over David Martin.

Bowditch had the ball in the back of the net shortly before half time, only to see his effort ruled out for offside.

Akinde then completed his first-half hat-trick when he was sent clear of the Dons' backline and fired beyond Martin.

The visitors threatened to get back into the game after the restart as Bowditch broke free only to drag his shot wide of goal.

Dale Jennings carved out another chance for Bowditch midway through the second half with a lobbed through-ball, but it was just beyond the reach of the Dons number nine.

Daniel Powell went even closer when his shot struck both posts late on, but Barnet held on to claim the win.
