Barnet vs Shrewsbury - prediction, team news, lineups

The international break has not halted League Two, with Shrewsbury Town set to continue their quest for survival when they face hosts Barnet at the Hive Stadium on Saturday.

The Bees are 15th with seven points from six matchweeks following their 1-1 stalemate with Colchester United on August 30, while their 23rd-placed visitors collected their second point of the campaign on the same date when they drew 0-0 with Accrington Stanley.

Match preview

The home side were the dominant team for large periods against Colchester considering two of their opponents' three shots from inside the box were produced in the first eight minutes, but they still relied on a 90th-minute equaliser from Danny Collinge to avoid defeat.

Barnet did lose 4-1 against Luton Town in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday, and they conceded more goals in that clash than they had in their prior four (three).

Dean Brennan's side conceded six times and scored once in their first three league matches of 2025-26, but they have since netted four goals and picked the ball out of the back of their own net on just one occasion.

The Bees' stalemate with Colchester extended their unbeaten streak in League Two to three games, though it was the first time they failed to win in those fixtures.

Barnet's record at home this term has been poor given they are yet to achieve victory at the Hive Stadium, losing three and drawing one of their four outings at the ground.

Shrewsbury's goalless stalemate with Accrington was their first clean sheet since their opening game of 2025-26 against Bromley on August 2, but they then suffered a 3-1 loss against Walsall on September 2 in the EFL Trophy.

Michael Appleton's team are second last in the league, and their records of 12 goals conceded and two scored are the division's joint-worst.

The visitors have not faced Barnet since 2016, but the club are undefeated in nine outings against their hosts, emerging as victors five times.

Though Salop have won one, drawn one and lost just one of their last three in all competitions, the club lost five and drew one of their previous six.

Shrewsbury's performances away from home have been poor, with the side having succumbed to four defeats in each of their four matches on the road.

Team News

Barnet right-back Collinge is certain to start following his goal against Colchester, and he may play in a back four with Ollie KensdaleAdam Senior and Idris Kanu.

Goalkeeper Owen Evans can be expected to come into the XI considering Cieran Slicker has been called up the the Scottish national team.

Oliver Hawkins is likely to lead his side's forward line, flanked by wide attackers Ryan Glover and Callum Stead.

Shrewsbury Town have often utilised a back three, and if they deploy a three-man defence on Saturday, Sam Stubbs, Tom Anderson and William Boyle will hope to retain their places.

Midfielders Taylor Perry and Isaac England may start in a double pivot behind forwards Ismeal Kabia, John Marquis and Callum Stewart.

Barnet possible starting lineup:

Evans; Collinge, Kensdale, Senior, Kanu; Shelton, Hartigan, Ofoborh; Glover, Hawkins, Stead

Shrewsbury Town possible starting lineup:

Harrison; Stubbs, Anderson, Boyle; Sang, Perry, England, Clucas; Kabia, Marquis, Stewart

We say: Barnet 1-0 Shrewsbury Town

Barnet have been strong defensively in recent league matches, and their performance against Colchester was encouraging despite their failure to win.

Shrewsbury boss Appleton will be under immense pressure to turn his side's fortunes around, but it is hard to see his team taking any points given they have been poor at both ends of the pitch.
