Inter Miami boss Phil Neville says that his side are still looking to sign Paris Saint-Germain attacker Lionel Messi.

Inter Miami boss Phil Neville has said that his side are still looking to sign Lionel Messi.

The 35-year-old's existing deal with Paris Saint-Germain is due to expire at the end of June, but he is currently in talks with the French champions over an extension.

"There are discussions, the sports management has exchanged with Leo on the subject of an extension. I do not know where it is," PSG head coach Christophe Galtier said on Tuesday.

"Leo seems happy to me in Paris. Afterwards, you have to see his position in relation to the project of the club. It's a subject I don't discuss with him."

Messi is believed to be keen to extend his deal in Paris, with a return to Barcelona now thought to be unlikely.

However, Neville has refused to rule out the Argentina international arriving in the MLS this year, with the former Manchester United defender insisting that "the landscape has not changed at all".

"We want to bring the best players in the world to this club and he is probably the best player, so for us the landscape has not changed at all," Neville told reporters during a press conference.

"With any deal for any DP (Designated Player) of that level, it's complicated. It takes time."

Messi has been in impressive form for PSG during the 2022-23 campaign, scoring 12 goals and registering 14 assists in 19 appearances in all competitions.

The forward is preparing to make his return for the French champions in Wednesday's Ligue 1 clash with Angers, having not featured at club level since the 2022 World Cup.

Messi helped Argentina win the competition in Qatar, scoring seven goals and registering three assists in six appearances, as the South American nation lifted the trophy.

Last month, Barcelona president Joan Laporta admitted that it would be "very difficult" for his club to re-sign Messi this year.

"On the subject of Messi, we can't generate expectations. Messi is a PSG player and has a contract with them. He has won the World Cup and the Cules have been very happy," Laporta told BarcaTV at the time.

"What I don't want to do is generate expectations that at the moment are very difficult.

"For us he is the best player of all time, we have had him here and I am convinced that in his heart he is a Cule and will always be linked to Barca.

"Whether or not he comes back as a player, at the moment he is at PSG and we would very much love him to come back one day, but we'll see."

Messi has a record of 23 goals and 29 assists in 53 appearances for PSG in all competitions.
