Barcelona team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Espanyol

Sports Mole rounds up Barcelona's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Wednesday's La Liga clash with Espanyol.

Barcelona will be looking to keep the pressure on La Liga leaders Real Madrid when they play host to bottom-of-the-table Espanyol at Camp Nou on Wednesday evening.

The Catalan giants currently lie four points off the pace with four games left to play, but Quique Setien's side returned to winning ways in impressive fashion at the weekend with a 4-1 victory over Champions League hopefuls Villarreal.

A win this week would see Barca close the gap on Real Madrid to just one point before Los Blancos take to the field against Alaves on Friday, and Espanyol's relegation to the Segunda Division will be confirmed should they fail to take all three points against Setien's men.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up Barcelona's latest injury and suspension news ahead of their showdown with Espanyol.

Samuel Umtiti

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Centre-back Samuel Umtiti has not played since the 2-2 draw with Celta Vigo in June due to problems with his knee. Barcelona have not given any indication as to when the Frenchman could be back in action, but Umtiti looks all but set to miss out on Wednesday.

Ousmane Dembele

Status: Out
Type of injury: Hamstring
Possible return date: Unknown

Umtiti's French compatriot Ousmane Dembele has also seen his season at Camp Nou blighted by injuries, and the winger is not expected to play a part for Barca until the 2020-21 campaign.

Frenkie de Jong

Status: Out
Type of injury: Calf
Possible return date: Unknown

Frenkie de Jong has only turned out once since the restart having sat out Barca's last six games with a calf problem. According to reports, the midfielder is not yet able to train fully and is not expected to be involved against Espanyol.

Junior Firpo

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Hip
Possible return date: Unknown

Junior Firpo was forced to miss out entirely against Villarreal with a hip injury. Barca have not given a timeframe for Firpo's return, so the Spaniard may have a chance of featuring in midweek.

BARCELONA'S SUSPENSION LIST

Barca have no suspension concerns heading into Wednesday's clash with Espanyol.
