Gerard Pique: 'I would rather retire than leave Barcelona'

Gerard Pique says that he plans on retiring with Barcelona when the club no longer need him - even if that day occurs in the near future.

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has revealed that he would rather retire at the age of 29 if the alternative meant playing for another club.

The centre-back, who came through the club's famed La Masia academy, has been a mainstay for the Catalans since returning from a spell with Manchester United in 2008.

The 28-year-old has enjoyed a trophy-laden stint at Camp Nou since his return, picking up five Liga crowns, two Copa del Reys and two Champions League titles.

"I'll retire at Barca. I don't know when - the older I am, the better. I'm sure about that; I can't see myself wearing any other shirt," he told Marca.

"If I see that next year I'm not up to scratch, I'll hang my boots up at 29 years of age. I don't associate this sport with anything except Barcelona."

Further honours lie on the horizon as the newly-crowned Liga champions face Atletico Madrid and Juventus in finals of the Copa del Rey and Champions League in the coming weeks.
