Andres Iniesta: 'Barcelona have failed this season'

Andres Iniesta has admitted that Barcelona have "failed" this season after seeing Atletico Madrid win the La Liga title at the Camp Nou.

Diego Godin's second-half goal cancelled out Alexis Sanchez's opener on the final day of the Spanish league season to ensure that Los Rojiblancos finished three points ahead of the Catalan club, leaving Barcelona trophyless this season.

"It was a sad end," Iniesta told Canal Plus. "We had it until the end. We have to congratulate Atletico. They are deserving champions.

"We have failed, as a group. We had chances until the last match, like them. Atletico have been better, and are champions. There is nothing to say."

Atletico are back in action next weekend when they take on local rivals Real Madrid in the Champions League final, while Barcelona now begin preparations for next season.
