Barcelona suspend all first-team activity amid coronavirus outbreak

Barcelona have confirmed that all first-team activity at the club has been suspended.

The Catalan giants had been due to face Mallorca in La Liga on Saturday night behind closed doors before it was announced that there would be no top-flight action in Spain for "at least the next two rounds of matches" due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Barca's Champions League clash with Napoli next week has also been postponed, and a statement from the Spanish champions has revealed that all first-team activity has been suspended on medical advice.

"Given the healthcare situation and according to the recommendations of the club's medical staff, the first team has suspended all activity until further notice," read the message on the club's official Twitter account.

"The decision was made after a meeting held this morning by the team with Josip Maria Bartomeu (club president), Dr Jaume Padros, the president of the Barcelona Medical Association and the head of occupational healthcare at the club, and Dr. Antoni Trilla, the head of epidemiology at hospital clinic."

As it stands, Barca could potentially return to action against Sevilla at the start of April.
