Barcelona forward Lionel Messi will reportedly face an extended spell on the sidelines after injuring his knee during his side's 2-1 win against Las Palmas.
The Argentine international was taken off just a few minutes into the game after being caught by Pedro Bigas while attempting a shot on goal.
The four-time Ballon D'or winner was taken to a nearby hospital to have his left knee examined and according to AS, Messi suffered damage to the lateral internal ligament but it is not yet known if it is a sprain or a tear.
It is believed that a tweak would mean the 28-year-old will miss three weeks, but he could be out for a few months if a tear is found.
Messi has scored four goals and created two assists in nine games so far this season in all competitions.
