Barcelona confirm Dani Olmo injury: A look at which matches the eight-goal attacker will miss

Barca issue Dani Olmo injury update with attacker set to miss crucial fixtures

Barcelona attacker Dani Olmo will be sidelined for approximately three weeks with the right adductor injury that he suffered during the team's La Liga clash with Osasuna on Thursday night.

Olmo scored Barcelona's second against Osasuna from the penalty spot, but he suffered an injury problem shortly after, and head coach Hansi Flick revealed after the match that the Spain international was facing a spell on the sidelines.

The Catalan outfit have now confirmed that the 26-year-old will be out of action for the next three weeks.

"Tests conducted this morning have confirmed that first-team player Dani Olmo has a right adductor injury. He is expected to be out for around three weeks," Barca said in a statement on Friday.

Olmo made the move to Barcelona from RB Leipzig during last summer's transfer window, and he has represented the Catalan team on 28 occasions, scoring eight goals and registering five assists in the process.

Barca attacker Olmo set to be sidelined for three weeks

The attacker is set to be sidelined for Barcelona's next six matches in all competitions, starting with their La Liga clash against Girona on Sunday afternoon, which comes ahead of the second leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final with Atletico Madrid next week.

Olmo is also likely to be absent for both legs of their Champions League quarter-final against Borussia Dortmund, in addition to league fixtures with Real Betis and Leganes, before a potential return against Celta Vigo on April 19.

The forward has had a frustrating first campaign at Barcelona due to registration issues, but 13 goal contributions in 28 matches demonstrate his importance to the team.

Which player will benefit from Olmo's absence?

Gavi is expected to benefit from Olmo's injury, with the youngster in line for a run in the side in the number 10 position.

Marc Casado is also sidelined with a knee problem, so Gavi, who has had a frustrating campaign, is set to have an important role to play in the coming weeks, giving him an opportunity to cement a spot in Flick's first XI.

Frenkie de Jong and Pedri are the midfield holders, while Lamine Yamal, Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski are absolute certainties in the final third of the field, with one other spot being available.

Gavi will face competition from the likes of Fermin Lopez and Ferran Torres, with both players impressing of late, demonstrating the quality of the options available to Flick.

Barcelona moved three points clear at the top of the La Liga table courtesy of their three-goal success over Osasuna, but Vicente Moreno's side have launched an official appeal into Inigo Martinez's involvement in the contest at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys.
