Barcelona team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Borussia Dortmund

Sports Mole rounds up Barcelona's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Tuesday's Champions League encounter with Borussia Dortmund.

Barcelona return to Champions League action on Tuesday night when they take on Borussia Dortmund at the Westfalenstadion.

While the Catalan giants have been below their best during the opening weeks of the season, Ernesto Valverde witnessed his side register a 5-2 victory over Valencia on Saturday evening.

However, Valverde remains with several selection dilemmas ahead of the trip to Germany, which includes whether to hand some minutes to Lionel Messi after a calf injury.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up Barcelona's latest injury and suspension news ahead of the meeting with the Bundesliga outfit.

Lionel Messi

Status: Slight doubt
Type of injury: Calf
Possible return date: September 17 (vs. Borussia Dortmund)

While Messi has missed the first four La Liga fixtures of the season, the Argentine handed Barcelona a boost on Sunday by returning to full training. However, despite potentially being fit enough to feature on the bench, the forward is unlikely to be risked.

Neto

Status: Out
Type of injury: Wrist
Possible return date: Unknown

Having sustained a fractured wrist shortly after arriving at Camp Nou, Neto is expected to remain on the sidelines until next month.

Ousmane Dembele

Status: Out
Type of injury: Thigh
Possible return date: September 28 (vs. Getafe)

Dembele picked up a hamstring injury before the international break, which is expected to keep him out for approximately five weeks. The Frenchman is unlikely to be back in contention until the end of the month.

Samuel Umtiti

Status: Out
Type of injury: Foot
Possible return date: Unknown

The defender was forced to withdraw from the France squad at the start of the month with a foot problem. While it was initially hoped that the centre-back would not miss much game-time, Barcelona have now revealed that the 25-year-old will not return from a metatarsal injury until the end of October.

BARCELONA'S SUSPENSION LIST

Barcelona have no players who are suspended for the contest on Tuesday.
