Lionel Messi made his first start for over two months and inspired Barcelona to a 2-0 victory against Getafe in the Copa del Rey second leg.

The four-time Ballon d'Or winner scored twice as Barca ran out 6-0 victors on aggregate to reach the quarter-final stage of the competition.

Messi scored his first of the evening a minute before half time with a close-range finish after Neymar had gone off with suspected tendon damage midway through the first half.

The Argentina international added his second on 63 minutes when he danced past three challenges before taking it around goalkeeper Jordi Codina to tap into an empty net.

Codina denied Messi a memorable hat-trick late on after Messi had again tormented several Getafe defenders.
