Robert Lewandowski sets new Champions League record

Robert Lewandowski set a new Champions League hat-trick record in Barcelona's 5-1 win over Viktoria Plzen.

After featuring in all of the club's opening four La Liga games, Lewandowski made his first Champions League appearance for Barcelona on Wednesday.

The Poland international required only 34 minutes to open his European account for his new club, making him the oldest player to score on his Champions League debut for Barcelona.

Lewandowski doubled his tally in first-half stoppage time before wrapping up his first hat-trick for the Catalan giants with over 20 minutes to spare.

As a result of his three-goal haul, Lewandowski set a new Champions League record by becoming the first player to score a hat-trick for three different clubs in the competition.

Four of his six Champions League hat-tricks came in the colours of Bayern Munich, as well as one for Borussia Dortmund.

Franck Kessie and Ferran Torres also scored at Camp Nou on Wednesday to help Barcelona claim a comfortable 5-1 victory against Viktoria Plzen.
