Thursday's Barcelona transfer talk news roundup: Eric Garcia, Georginio Wijnaldum, Frenkie de Jong

Here, Sports Mole rounds up the latest transfer talk for Barcelona on Thursday, December 10.

The summer transfer window has now closed, shutting the door on one of the most turbulent spells in Barcelona's history.

The Spanish giants were rocked by Lionel Messi's request to leave the club, sparking a bitter contract dispute which ultimately ended with the six-time Ballon d'Or winner reluctantly agreeing to stay for at least another season.

Other notable names such as Luis Suarez, Ivan Rakitic and Arturo Vidal did leave, though, while Messi's future is sure to be the subject of much more speculation going forward.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up the latest transfer news from the Camp Nou.

Arsenal 'monitoring Eric Garcia ahead of potential bid'

Arsenal are reportedly keeping a close eye on Eric Garcia's situation at Manchester City as the Gunners consider a January approach for the central defender.

Garcia's contract at the Etihad Stadium is due to expire next summer, and Barcelona are seen as the favourites to re-sign the Spain international.

The Catalan giants will allegedly struggle to raise the required funds to sign the 19-year-old in January, though, due to the financial impact of the coronavirus outbreak.

According to The Sun, Mikel Arteta is 'keeping tabs' on the defender, who worked closely with the Arsenal manager when the pair were together at City.

Garcia has played in his team's last two Champions League matches but has only featured on one occasion in the Premier League since the end of October.

The teenager, who was forced off the field in the early stages of Wednesday's European clash with Marseille, has made 30 appearances for the Citizens since arriving from Barca in 2017.

Report: Georginio Wijnaldum still considering Barcelona move

Georginio Wijnaldum is still contemplating his Liverpool future amid strong interest from Barcelona, according to a report.

The Catalan giants attempted to sign Wijnaldum when head coach Ronald Koeman, who previously managed the midfielder while in charge of the Netherlands, took over in August.

A move failed to materialise but Koeman recently reiterated that he remains a fan of the 30-year-old, who is due to become a free agent next summer.

Mundo Deportivo claims that, with the former Newcastle United ace able to open talks with Barca from next month, he is still unsure what to do beyond this season.

Wijnaldum has given little away when asked about his future in recent weeks, but Liverpool are believed to be keen to tie him down to a new deal.

Liverpool take on FC Midtjylland in the Champions League on Wednesday evening, with Wijnaldum in contention to feature.
