English club leads Bernard chase

Atletico Mineiro president Alexandre Kalil has claimed that he has held talks with an English club regarding a potential move for attacking midfielder Bernard.

The 20-year-old has previously been strongly linked with Chelsea, although Kalil stopped short of confirming the name of the club in question.

"I have talked directly with the president of an English club, which are the club who are closest to signing him," Kalil told reporters.

"Some time ago a German club came here and talked with me but we didn't talk about a value. Then, they left."

Bernard made his senior international debut for Brazil in November 2012.
