Diego Simeone: 'A title challenge would be hard'

Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone has admitted that a title challenge would be very difficult for his team.

Atletico beat rivals Real Madrid in the Madrid derby last night to maintain their 100% start to their La Liga season.

"It would be demagogically perfect to change [the dynamic of a two-team league] but across the season, economic power [of Barcelona and Madrid] are superior to the rest," Simeone told reporters.

"It makes it hard for us to challenge over a league season. We have our weapons and we try to give our lives in every game."

The win against Madrid put Atleti five points clear of their rivals, level with Barcelona at the top of the league.
