Newcastle United have reportedly given consideration to making an approach for Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone.

The new owners of Newcastle United have reportedly given consideration to appointing Diego Simeone as the club's new manager.

On Wednesday morning, the Magpies confirmed that they had parted company with Steve Bruce as a result of the team sitting in the Premier League relegation zone.

The likes of Paulo Fonseca, Lucien Favre and Eddie Howe have all been heavily linked with a possible arrival at St James' Park.

However, according to AS, the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund have held an interest in bringing in Atletico Madrid boss Simeone for some time.

The report suggests that they are admirers of the current model behind the scenes at Wanda Metropolitano, the Argentine being supported by sporting director Andrea Berta.

While a double appointment appears unlikely at this stage, there is seemingly potential for an approach to be made should Newcastle become contenders for a European place in the future.
