Live Commentary: Copenhagen 1-4 Atletico Madrid - as it happened

Copenhagen 1-4 Atletico Madrid - as it happened

Copenhagen welcomed Atletico Madrid to the Danish capital in the last 32 of the Europa League aiming to shut out Diego Simeone's charges ahead of their second meeting in Spain next week.

The omens looked good for the hosts when they took an early lead through Viktor Fischer, only for Saul Niguez and Kevin Gameiro to give Atletico a 2-1 lead at the break.

The visitors then moved into the driving seat in the tie when Antoine Griezmann and Vitolo bagged goals in the second half, securing an emphatic 4-1 win at the Parken Stadium.

Relive all of the action with our minute-by-minute updates below.

9.55pmSo there we have it, Atletico in dominant form as you might expect. Copenhagen gave it a decent shot in the first half, but the visitors just had far too much for them even on home soil. You do have to fear for them for their trip to Spain too. That's going to be all from me tonight, thanks for joining us!

90+2 minFULL TIME: COPENHAGEN 1-4 ATLETICO MADRID

90 minTwo minutes of added time here...

88 minOne thing the hosts will take away from tonight is that they have impressed with their workmanship, they haven't gone missing when tracking back and trying to press.

86 minThe snow continues to trickle in the Danish capital and the hosts just want to be off the pitch, surely... This game seems totally beyond them now. Atletico have just been far too good in the final third.

84 minTypical of Simeone's side, they continue to press when without the ball as if we are still in the opening half of the game... This has been a classy performance for a side who are arguably a little too good for this tournament!

81 minThis tie is surely dead and buried now, Atletico just moving the ball about comfortably with the home side looking rather shell-shocked. This is not what they wanted.

79 minMadrid stand off a little too much, allowing Pavlovic to fire towards the far post, where Moya is deployed well to make a comfortable save.

77 minThis is just careless from the hosts now... Ankersen fails to clear his lines as he thuds a clearance straight into Thomas. The rebound falls to Vitolo, who steadies himself before opening up to fire beyond Olsen.

77 minGOAL! COPENHAGEN 1-4 ATLETICO MADRID (VITOLO)

74 minCLOSE! The Danes almost have an instant chance to respond when they break down the right, where the ball is cut back across goal for an unmarked Santander, but he fluffs his lines and the ball runs through to Saul to clear.

71 minIs that tie over? Carrasco picks up the ball inside the Copenhagen half and fires a quick past in behind, which beats the best efforts of Vavro to intercept. The ball finds Griezmann, who sees Olsen coming off his line and is able to round the stopper and thread his finish into an empty net.

71 minGOAL! COPENHAGEN 1-3 ATLETICO MADRID (ANTOINE GRIEZMANN)

70 minSUBSTITUTE: Simeone makes another change tonight, as goalscorer Gameiro is replaced by fellow striker Vitolo in attack.

68 minThomas shows great feet on the edge of the box to skip past Boilesen, who then brings down the Atletico man in a great position. The free kick is fed short to Carrasco, who skews his shot wide from just outside of the area under pressure from Vavro.

66 minSkov opens up from all of 35 yards and his effort flies high and wide without Moya having to move from his spot. Ambitious to say the least...

64 minThe tempo has dropped from this game considerably in the last 10 minutes. Atletico find themselves with two important away goals, while Copenhagen seem keen not to find themselves out of the tie come the end of this first leg.

62 minSUBSTITUTE: Copenhagen make a change now too, as Falk is replaced by striker Federico Santander. The hosts going for it, then?

60 minSUBSTITUTE: That cross proves to be Correa's final of the game, as he comes off in place of Yannick Carrasco...

60 minCLOSE! Madrid spring a counter this time as Correa scrambles beyond the last defender on the right channel. The winger fires one into the middle only to see his effort hoofed clear by Gregus.

58 minMore neat work from the home side, who are looking a lot more settled, sees Fischer lay the ball off for Skov on the edge of the area, but the midfielder miscues his effort and it runs kindly through into the arms of Moya.

56 minFalk makes a great run in behind and has the beating of Lucas, although his cut-back into the middle for Sotiriou is a poor one and Godin can step in to clear the danger.

54 minCLOSE! Atletico are moving the ball with real aplomb and the hosts are having to do a lot of chasing. Gameiro winds up from range, only to see his effort nestle on the roof of the home net. That was just a fraction away from being a brilliant goal...

52 minThe visitors make progress for the first time in the second half through Ankersen down the right channel, but he is eventually stopped in his tracks by Lucas.

50 minGriezmann is starting to find similar pockets again, and the Frenchman tries to find a lofted through-ball over the top for Saul. Olsen reads it well, however, allowing the keeper to scramble off his line and pluck the ball out of the air.

48 minAtletico start brightly with Correa finding some room down the right flank. The winger fires in his shot, which is well stopped by Olsen in the middle of his goal.

46 minSECOND HALF! We're back underway in a snowy Denmark..

9.04pmAs we have seen twice tonight, Atletico just need a minor lapse in concentration and they are in...

9.01pmSimeone will want more of the same in the second period and he will likely be expecting his side to grab another important away goal. Copenhagen will have to be careful here as they will not want to be heading to Spain with the contest already beyond them.

8.53pmYou get the feeling that Simeone's men have the ability to turn things on whenever they like, however, just as we saw with both of their goals here.

8.53pmCopenhagen have done fairly well so far, especially after being overrun in the opening minutes. The hosts have threatened with a few counter attacks, although Atletico have rarely looked uncomfortable.

8.51pmSo the referee calls time on a fantastic opening half of football in Denmark. Atletico have always looked the better side, but Copenhagen took a shock lead thanks to some great quality from Fischer. Madrid responded as you might expect, though, with Saul and Gameiro profiting from some world-class creativity from Griezmann.

45 minHALF TIME: COPENHAGEN 1-2 ATLETICO MADRID

43 minYELLOW CARD! Atletico have just sought to try and draw out the home side in the last few minutes with some spells of possession at the back. Correa is the target for a counter, and he soon finds himself booked as he kicks the ball away after being adjudged offside.

41 minCHANCE! Griezmann picks out a stunning through-ball in behind the Copenhagen defence, allowing Gameiro to use his pace to scramble free. The striker drives inside the box, only to eventually be hounded out before getting his effort away on goal.

39 minCHANCE! The home side respond with a shot from distance, leaving the rebound to fall kindly to Sotiriou on the edge of the box. The striker should do better, but can only find a tame finish straight into the arms of a delighted Moya.

37 minA goal of real quality from the favourites. Griezmann completes the one-two with Lucas, allowing the full-back to burst in behind his marker. The defender picks out a delightful cut-back for Gameiro, who opens up his body and guides a shot into the far corner.

37 minGOAL! COPENHAGEN 1-2 ATLETICO MADRID (KEVIN GAMEIRO)

37 minMore standout pressure sees the home side rob Thomas inside his own half, before the ball is then shifted into Sotiriou and he opens up for a shot on goal. His effort is on the tame side, though, leaving Moya to make a comfortable save down low.

35 minAnkersen has been a positive outlet down the right and he makes inroads down his side fro full-back, although his cross into the middle is soon turned away by Lucas before it can trouble the visitors.

33 minThe early spark from Madrid's passing has just drifted slightly and Copenhagen are doing well to pack the midfield and stifle the visitors during their build-up play in the final third.

31 minGriezmann stands over it and tries to bend his effort over the wall, leaving the guilty Luftner to jump highest and block the shot with a strong header.

29 minOUCH! Luftner goes into the back of Gameiro on the edge of the box, leaving Madrid with a free kick in a perfect position just outside of the area.

27 minGriezmann is alive to a loose back pass from midfield, but Olsen is quick enough off his line in order to thwart the danger with the Frenchman lurking on the edge of the box.

25 minWe're back to that early pattern of play now, with Madrid shifting the ball nicely through the middle. Copenhagen win the ball back, though, resulting in a quick counter. The ball lands at the feet of Fischer, but his effort on the turn trickles wide of Moya's near post.

23 minYELLOW CARD! Skov goes into the book for the hosts following a rather hefty tackle on Lucas.

21 minThat lasted all of six minutes... Correa wins a corner on the right, which is quickly taken leaving the home defenders out of shape in the box. Griezmann collects the ball short and turns a ball towards the near post. Madrid have a few players free and it's Saul who gambles on it to send a header beyond a helpless Olsen.

21 minGOAL! COPENHAGEN 1-1 ATLETICO MADRID (SAUL NIGUEZ)

19 minThe goal has given the home side a huge lift and they now look a little busier in their work here, as they press Atletico for every ball in the middle. They're much improved from those opening minutes now.

17 minClinical from the hosts, then, who have been completely out of this contest up until the opener. Atletico have responded by going about their work as usual. Simeone's men looked unthreatened up until that shock. They'll still fancy themselves here, surely...

15 minWhat an earth just happened? The home side get the ball out on the left, where a cross is cut into the box before moving out to the feet of Ankersen, who whips it back towards goal. Somehow Fischer is able to scramble free of his marker before producing a deft flick to send the ball beyond an unmoved Moya in the Atletico goal.

15 minGOAL! COPENHAGEN 1-0 ATLETICO MADRID (VIKTOR FISCHER)

15 minSAVE! Olsen saves the home side from an almost-certain goal. The ball is given away carelessly at the back, allowing the Griezmann to nip in unchallenged with only the keeper to beat. Olsen somehow manages to get a hand to the Frenchman's shot, though.

13 minCopenhagen have rarely had a touch of the ball, apart from when clearing it out of their own box. Correa is next to threaten for Madrid, but he sees his ball into the middle hacked away by Luftner.

11 minThomas has brought good energy to the away midfield already and the youngster is showing an impressive touch on the ball. Griezmann and Juanfran combine on the overlap, but a congested box sees Copenhagen crowd the away side out when the cross eventually comes in.

9 minCLOSE! Another early chance for Simeone's men... Thomas wins the ball inside the Copenhagen half before feeding Juanfran down the right. The cross is soon turned in by Koke, allowing Griezmann to swipe with his weaker right foot and see an effort drift just wide of the far post.

7 minFischer does well for the hosts as he brings the ball down on the edge of the area and sets about starting a decent spell of possession for Copenhagen. Ankersen turns the ball into the box for Sotiriou, who is hounded out by Godin in the heart of the Atletico defence.

5 minIt's all Atletico and Copenhagen look slightly off the pace. The away side venture down the right before coming inside for Thomas, whose eventual through-ball into Griezmann is cut out by Vavro at the back.

3 minA fast and purposeful start from visitors, who are moving forward from midfield with real pace early on. Griezmann goes for the one-two with Gameiro, leaving the ball to eventually land with Koke. The midfielder has a shot just a few yards out from goal but it is saved well by Olsen.

1 minKICKOFF! Atletico get us moving here at the Parken Stadium. The home side feature in all white, while Madrid are in yellow.

8.03pmTime for the ceremonial Europa League anthem and then we'll be off!

8.02pmThe players are now taking to the field with a prominent light show taking place in the stands. The ground is totally full here and the atmosphere is fantastic.

8.01pmAs for Solbakkenand, the home coach is aiming to head to Spain with the result still open for his side: "Our goal is to go to the second leg with an open tie. It would be naive not to make any small tactical adjustments when you face a rival like Atletico."

7.59pmSimeone has already made clear that he will not be taking tonight's opponents lightly: "I don't look beyond the game tomorrow. My mind and enthusiasm are focused on the game that lies ahead, and making my players think the same. The rest is in our imagination. We live in reality, not in our thoughts, and reality is what is going to happen tomorrow. "Just as we have faced European ties in the same way for the past seven years, we will face the Europa League. We will go game by game until we are stopped, that is the reality we have ahead. With enthusiasm and against a competitive team, we will have to take the match to where it suits us best. "It will be difficult, with a lot of atmosphere in their stadium. I played there with Lazio and they have a lot of passion, they play a very good passing game."

7.57pmPREDICTION: Right, 10 minutes to go until kickoff and it's time to make a prediction. Atletico have not fared well in Europe this term, but Simeone has fielded a side that perhaps suggests his intent in this tournament. Copenhagen are remarkable at home, but given the quality in this Madrid side, the visitors will be expecting to take an advantage back home with them to Spain. I'm backing the visitors for a 2-0 win on the road.

7.55pmThese side have met just once before in the 2007-08 UEFA Cup. Atletico ran out victors following a 2-0 away win following goals from Simao and Sergio Agüero. Current Copenhagen coach Solbakken was in charge of the hosts at the time during his first spell at the club.

7.53pmCopenhagen are featuring in the UEFA Cup/ Europa League round of 32 for the fourth time. They have only made it past this stage once before, having beaten Ludogorets Razgrad only to be dumped out in the next round by Ajax.

7.52pmSolbakken's outfit have lost just once in their last 14 European games in the Danish capital, winning nine. They also have three clean sheets in a row at home in the Europa.

7.50pmAs for tonight's hosts, Copenhagen secured a place in the knockout stages thanks to a win in their last group game. During those group stages, the Danes did not concede a single goal at home.

7.49pmThis year Atletico are the only previous Europa League winners active in the last 32...

7.48pmThis represents just the second occasion in eight tries that Atletico have failed to get beyond the group stages of the Champions League. Having said that, the only other occasion occurred in 2009-10 and they went on to win the inaugural campaign of this tournament.

7.47pmIt is quite a shock to see Atletico in this tournament when you consider their European progress in recent years. Since last featuring in the competition, Simeone's side have appeared in two Champions League finals and reached the quarter-finals and semi-finals twice.

7.46pmHaving said that, Atletico did draw all three away games in the Champions League earlier this season. After winning the Europa League in both 2010 and 2012, Madrid are making their first appearance in this competition in five years.

7.44pmAtletico come into this clash having stumbled out of the Champions League at the expense of Chelsea and Roma. Simeone's side have had a testing time in Europe this term. The Spanish giants have won only two of their last nine European fixtures and none of their last five on the road.

7.43pmDiego Godin starts at the back alongside fellow defender Jose Gimenez. There's also a place for youngster Thomas Partey in the middle of the park, who will line up alongside fellow midfielders Koke, Angel Correa and Saul.

7.41pmAs for Atletico, Diego Simeone has named an alarmingly strong side this evening. Antoine Griezmann starts up top, where Kevin Gameiro also features instead of Diego Costa.

7.40pmThe Danes have also handed a Europa League start to new frontman Viktor Fischer, who will play just behind striker Pieros Sotiriou. There is another start for new man Robert Skov on the right wing too.

7.38pmSo the major news for the Danish side is that coach Stale Solbakkenand has opted to drop key defender Pierre Bengtsson in place of Denis Vavro at the back, in what seems like a purely tactical move from the Copenhagen boss.

7.38pmATLETICO MADRID SUBSTITUTES: Werner, Luis, Vrsaljko, Carrasco, Gabi, Vitolo, Torres

7.37pmATLETICO MADRID STARTING XI: Moya; Juanfran, Gimenez, Godin, Lucas; Correa, Thomas, Saul, Koke; Griezmann, Gameiro

7.36pmCOPENHAGEN SUBSTITUTES: Andersen, Bengtsson, Matic, Santander, Pavlovic, Thomsen, Roerslev

7.36pmCOPENHAGEN STARTING XI: Olsen; Ankersen, Vavro, Luftner, Boilesen; Kvist, Gregus, Skov, Falk; Pieros, Fischer

7.35pmWe'll start with tonight's team news...
