Good evening! Top spot in Group C will be decided at Estadio da Luz tonight as Benfica host Atletico Madrid, with the two teams level on 10 points from their first five matches. Let's start with a look at the team news.

BENFICA STARTING XI: Cesar, Lopez, Eliseu, Jardel, Almeida, Fejsa, Gaitan, Guedes, Pizzi, Sanches, Jonas

ATLETICO MADRID STARTING XI: Oblak, Godin, Luis, Savic, Juanfran, Koke, Gabi, Niguez, Ferreira-Carrasco, Griezmann, Vietto

BENFICA SUBSTITUTES: Ederson, Samaris, Jimenez, Nilsson-Lindelof, Talisca, Carcelo-Gonzalez, Mitroglou

ATLETICO MADRID SUBSTITUTES: Moya, Siqueira, Gimenez, Oliver, Correa, Partey, Torres

Benfica make three changes to the side that shared a 2-2 draw with Astana in their last Champions League fixture. Nicolas Gaitan, who scored in the 2-1 win over Atletico earlier in the competition, returns from suspension, while Andre Almeida and Ljubomir Fejsa are also included.

Meanwhile, Diego Simeone has made four changes to the side that defeated Galatasaray in their last outing in this competition, which secured their place in the last 16. Saul Niguez and Luciano Vietto come in, while Stefan Savic and Juanfran are recalled at the back. Antoine Griezmann, who netted a brace last time out, starts upfront alongside Vietto.

The task for both sides is simple this evening - win, and you finishing top in the group, lose, you go through as runners-up. With Benfica having beaten Atletico in their other meeting, a draw would see the Portuguese side progress as the top-ranked side, theoretically giving them an easier draw in the knockout stage.

Ahead of this match, Benfica coach Rui Vitoria told reporters: "We're up against a side that are having a great season. Since our win in Spain they have played 12 matches, won almost all and conceded four goals. This shows their power, but we also have to be aware that they have great attackers, too. Perhaps both teams are in the position they wanted to be in at the beginning – qualified. But at home, with the support of our fans, we want to win and end in first place. There isn't much to think about."

Meanwhile, Diego Simeone said at his pre-match press conference: "Benfica had a great game in Madrid and are a team with interesting options up front. We have to be wary of the players they have that can create us problems. [Nico] Gaitán is one, Renato [Sanches] another – Benfica keep producing these interesting youngsters. We have been a solid team for four or five years now and we have our style. I don't agree with being branding a defensive team, though. Our aim is always to win and it would be great to finish top of the group."

Both sides come into this match off the back of positive domestic results at the weekend. Benfica thrashed Academica 3-0, with Jonas scoring two penalties in that fixture, while Atletico claimed a 2-0 win over Granada in La Liga, with Griezmann scoring his fifth goal in as many games in that fixture.

Atletico do not have fond memories of their last match at Estadio da Luz, with the Spanish side losing to Real Madrid in the Champions League final in 2014.

PREDICTION! With the players due out in the next couple of minutes, there's just time for a quick prediction. Atletico need the win more, with a draw good enough for Benfica to finish top in the group, but the home side have named an attacking side, and will want to improve on their draw with Astana last time out. There was little between these two sides last time they met though, so I'm going for a 1-1 draw.

The players head out of the tunnel ready for kickoff. It's not full in Lisbon, but the Benfica fans are making themselves heard as ever.

KICKOFF! The visitors get the match underway.

Benfica have seen all the ball so far, with the home side passing the ball around the back, before Gaitan makes his first run of the night, charging down the right before attempting to cross the ball in for Jonas, but he puts too much on the delivery, leaving it to go straight out the other side.

Jonas controls a high ball forward with a delicate backheel inside for Pizzi, but the Benfica winger is quickly crowded out as he looks to make a run into the box. It's been fairly open so far, with Benfica seeing the majority of the possession, but Atletico looking keen to get on the counter-attack.

There could be an issue for the home side as Gaitan, who led Benfica to victory over Atletico earlier in the season, comes up clutching his knee after clashing with Diego Godin on the edge of the box. It looks like he's going to try to run it off, but he appeared to be struggling quite a bit.

Saul Niguez tries to create something for the visitors, chasing down a ball into the box down the left, but Lopez does enough to force the winger to put the ball behind for a goal kick.

A lovely pass into the box from Jonas finds Gaitan, who appears to be showing no ill effects from his collision with Godin a few minutes ago. The midfielder is quickly surrounding, and tries to win a corner, but Filipe Luis clears the threat for Atletico.

Gaitan appears to be something of a marked man this evening as he's brought down by Gabi in midfield. The home side can't make the most of the free kick though, as Atletico get the ball back, before a long ball forward is aimed at Griezmann, who he's unable to control the pass over the top with his first touch.

Benfica give the ball away in midfield, with Koke spotting Ferreira-Carrasco on the move. The through-ball is too heavy though, and Julio Cesar is able to beat the striker to the ball.

GOAL DISALLOWED! Diego Godin nods the ball into the back of the net from the edge of the six-yard box as Griezmann curls the ball in from Atletico's first corner of the night. His joy is short-live though, as he turns to see the assistant raise the flag. The defender gestures that he must only have been inches offside, but in reality he was a couple of feet in front.

CHANCE! Atletico are just starting to threaten a bit more after a fairly quiet opening 15 minutes or so from the visitors. Saul Niguez picks the ball up in midfield, and runs at the penalty area before unleashing a rasping effort from 20 yards out, but a diving save from Cesar tips the ball around the post.

CHANCE! Cesar is suddenly finding himself very busy as the Spanish side force another corner, which Benfica initially clear, but Gabi tries his luck on the half-volley from the edge of the area, with the dipping effort forcing the Benfica stopper to tip it over.

Benfica manage to get the ball away from their penalty area after several minutes of barely getting outside their box, but Andre Almeida gifts possession straight back to the visitors, clashing with Griezmann on the edge of the box.

Benfica are starting to dominate possession again, with Guedes and Almeida working the ball through the middle, but Pizzi is unable to get on the end of a cross from the latter.

Benfica get forward again, with Gaitan playing a brilliant through-ball in for Pizzi, but Savic makes a brave tackle in the penalty area to stop the midfielder getting the shot away.

The home side threaten again as Jonas shows some excellent footwork to take the ball away from Luis before forcing a corner, but Gaitan's ball back in goes straight over the top.

GOAL! Benfica 0-1 Atletico Madrid (Saul Niguez)

Somewhat against the run of play, the visitors have taken the lead as Griezmann launches the ball, playing the ball forward to Vietto, who cuts the ball back it into the path of Niguez for the midfielder to calmly roll into the bottom corner.

Benfica have a chance to get back on level terms almost straight away as Juanfran tangles with Gaitan on the left flank, conceding a free kick. Pizzi delivers a dangerous-looking ball in, but his teammates all hesitate lining up the shot, allowing Luis to make the clearance for the visitors.

CHANCE! Renato Sanches charges through the middle before playing the ball in for Guedes, but the midfielder's finish from the right-hand side of the box ends up going just wide of the left post.

Gaitan attempts to break for Benfica, but is flagged for offside, leaving Atletico to charge back towards the home side's box, but Griezmann's ball in for Niguez is cleared as the goalscorer is crowded out by the Benfica defenders.

Luis gets forward to help out in attack as the La Liga outfit push for a second before half time. They're keeping possession well, but the defender is unable to get the cross in before Benfica push their opponents back to the halfway line.

CHANCE! Jonas holds the ball up on the edge of the box, eventually unleashing a thumping effort, but Savic launches himself in front of the shot to make the block, although the impact does leave him in some agony.

HALF TIME: Benfica 0-1 Atletico Madrid

So, Saul Niguez's strike just after the half-hour mark separates the two sides at the interval. Benfica have seen plenty of the ball, but the visitors have looked a little sharper in front of goal, with Diego Godin having also had the ball in the back of the net, only for his header to be chalked off for offside.

The home side actually had more possession than their opponents, with 57% in the first half. Both sides created four shots, but the Portuguese side are yet to test Jan Oblak, while two of the La Liga team's shots were on target. Diego Simeone's side have been more physical, conceding seven free kicks to Benfica's three.

Here's the goalscorer battling with Lisandro Lopez of Benfica in the first half:

The players are starting to make their way back out for the second half. Can Benfica get back on level terms? We'll find out in the next 45 minutes.

SUB! The home side are making a change, with Kostas Mitroglou replacing Goncalo Guedes.

RESTART! Benfica gets the match back underway.

CHANCE! Kostas Mitroglou almost makes an immediate impact for the home side, charging forward straight from the restart before cutting inside and driving the ball towards the bottom left corner, narrowly missing the target, with the ball brushing the side-netting on its way out for a goal kick.

Griezmann shows off his pace after Atletico win the ball back from a wayward Jonas pass. The striker races away from Eliseu before eventually being halted by Jardel in the penalty area.

Benfica are struggling to keep possession in the opening stages of this second half, with the home side giving the ball away to Gabi in midfield, leaving the Atletico man to charg e forward, but he's penalised for a foul on Sanches.

Atletico are bearing down on the Benfica box again as the hosts struggle to get out of their own half. Griezmann plays the ball out wide to Gabi, but his cross into the penalty area is header away.

GOAL! Benfica 0-2 Atletico Madrid (Luciano Vietto)

Yannick Ferreira-Carrasco gets the ball on the left, sprinting down the flank before crossing in front of the face of goal, setting up Luciano Vietto to slide into the six-yard box, slicing the ball past a stranded Julio Cesar. It's going to take a big effort for the home side to overturn the deficit now.

Atletico are starting to sit a little deeper, having opened up a two-goal cushion that would send them through to the knockout stages as group winners. Eliseu tries to pressure Juanfran, conceding a free kick for grappling with the Atletico defender.

Jonas has probably been Benfica's sharpest looking player going forward so far this evening, and he makes another dash towards the box, sliding a diagonal pass in for Pizzi, but the midfielder hesitates, letting the visitors clear.

SUB! Jonas is thought to be carrying a couple of knocks, so he's heading off early, with Raul Jimenez taking his place.

SUB! Having scored his first Champions League goal, Vietto is heading off, with Fernando Torres taking his place.

CHANCE! Pizzi squares the ball inside for Raul Jimenez to take on his first shot since coming off the bench, and the midfielder strikes it superbly, just failing to squeeze it under the crossbar before of a stretching save from Oblak. That's the Atletico stopper's first save of the night.

CHANCE! Torres has been waiting since September 19 to score his 100th goal in an Atletico shirt, and the Spaniard has a chance now as Luis gets forward, sending a low cross in for the striker, but his first touch is poor, scuffing the ball away from the target.

BOOKING! Diego Godin is the first player to go in the book this evening, drawing the attention of the referee for pulling down Renato Sanches out wide.

Gaitain tries to lay the ball off to Pizzi, but Luis makes the block. It comes back to Gaitan, but his half-volley from the edge of the box is comfortably cleared. Benfica are starting to show a bit more haste though as they try to get back into this match.

BOOKING! Renato Sanches is hacked down again, this time by Saul Niguez, which earns the scorer of the opening goal a yellow card.

Gaitan is working hard to try to create something for the home side, but it's just not happening for the midfielder. He loops the ball into the box for Pizzi to knock down, but Jimenez's effort is blocked, before the rebound is blasted well high by Gaitan.

SUB! The visitors make their second change of the night as Oliver Torres comes on for Yannick Ferreira-Carrasco.

Oliver Torres gets involved straight away, attempting to set up Fernando Torres, but the striker's finish does not trouble Julio Cesar.

GOAL! Benfica 1-2 Atletico Madrid (Kostas Mitroglou)

The home side strike on the counter-attack to cut the deficit in half, with Jimenez playing the ball in for Mitroglou, who takes a touch before rifling the ball in low off the foot of the right post. Don't forget, Benfica came from two goals down to earn a draw with Astana in their last Champions League outing.

SUB! Benfica make their final change of the night as Nicolas Gaitan heads off early, with Mehdi Carcelo-Gonzalez coming on in his place.

BOOKING! Luis tries to hold the ball up at the back for Atletico, resulting in Ljubomir Fejsa going in a little heavy, earning him the first booking of the night for Benfica.

Getting a goal back has really brought the crowd to life, and they're roaring the Portuguese side on as they press for the equaliser, which would be enough for them to finish top in Group C. Sanches, who has probably been the best player in the second half for Benfica, attempting the curl the ball in from 20 yards out, but it's a fraction high of the crossbar.

Benfica force a corner as the match heads into the final 10 minutes, with Carcelo-Gonzalez whipping he ball back in. Jardel wins the header in the box, but can only knock it down, and there's no-one there to take the shot on.

Atletico fail to clear a long ball forward, leaving Mitroglou to flick the ball out to Carcela-Gonzalez, but the substitute lost possession.

CHANCE! Raul Jimenez comes close to leveling the scores against his old side, rising high in the air to head towards the bottom corner from a Pizzi cross, but he glances the ball inches wide. This is easily Benfica's strongest spell of the match.

Eliseu hasn't got forward too often this evening, but he manages to get out from the back now, sprinting down the left to meet a through-ball and go for a low drive into the left corner, but Oblak is ready to make just his second save of the night.

BOOKING! The visitors have a corner, and Oliver Torres is trying to use up a few seconds, but he waits too long, earning himself a yellow card.

SUB! Atletico are doing everything to waste time and disrupt the rhythm of the match in the final few moments, with Antoine Griezmann slowly making his way off for Jose Gimenez to come on for the final few seconds.

Julio Cesar comes a long way out, bringing the ball out the half-way line before launching a long ball forward into the Atletico box, but the keeper's efforts failed to set up his teammates for a shot.

FULL TIME: Benfica 1-2 Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid survive a ferociously attacking final 15 minutes from Benfica to secure the win at Estadio da Luz, progressing to the knockout stage of the competition as Group C winners, which means the Spanish side will be seeded for the last 16 draw.

That's all from this match, but stick around for results and reaction from the other matches in the Champions League this evening, and join us again tomorrow night for the final eight fixtures in the group stage of this season's Champions League. Until then, thanks for joining me this evening. Goodbye.
