Athletic Bilbao bounce back against Valencia

Athletic Bilbao overturn an early deficit to record a 3-1 victory over Valencia at San Mames.

Athletic Bilbao recovered from a one-goal deficit to record a 3-1 victory in their home encounter against Valencia this afternoon.

It was the visitors that made a positive start at San Mames and they were rewarded in the 20th minute when Dani Parejo found the back of the net from 20 yards out.

However, the lead would only last for 14 minutes as Aymeric Laporte rose highest to head in a corner from close range.

It was a goal that put the home side in the ascendancy, although they did not make that count until the hour mark when Markel Susaeta pounced on a loose ball to fire in.

Then, nine minutes later the points were secured when Aritz Aduriz raced on to Raul Garcia's through pass to score his team's third goal. It was the 51st goal that the striker has been involved in since the start of the 2013-14 campaign - no Spanish player has featured in more during that time.

The result, which ended a run of three La Liga matches without a win, has lifted Bilbao out of the relegation zone, while Valencia are ninth.
